According to a press release via Jay Gifford, athletic director the following information is being released.
The Dodge City High School Athletic Department has announced that its annual Physical Night will be discontinued due to liability issues regarding the event.
In the past, the Dodge City High School Athletic Training program has organized a “Physical Night” in which student-athletes from USD443, grades 6-11, were able to receive their sports physicals at the Dodge City High School Field House at a reduced rate. The benefit to the school district has been the ability to collect a large amount of the KSHSAA mandated physicals, which are required for students to participate, at a time before summer activities began.
“Though I am disappointed that we will no longer be able to partner with our local doctors to provide this service for the student-athletes of our District, I am extremely grateful to the many health care professionals who have volunteered to make this event so successful over the past several years. The money raised through this night has been extremely helpful in providing resources for our athletic training program, which is also a reflection of the generosity of the doctors in our community.” – Jay Gifford, AD
All potential student-athletes in USD443 are reminded that they must have a current Physical on file in their school’s athletic office to participate in both summer programs, and their chosen activity – once the new school year begins. Physical forms may be found at www.dchssports.com/forms-publications. Physicals must be dated after May 1, 2016 in order to count for summer activities and the next school year (2016-17). Also, Physicals must also include Health Insurance information, parent signatures, Concussion paperwork, and emergency contact information. Physicals may be delivered to the athletic department office at the appropriate school after May 1, 2016.
