The Career and Technical Education department at Dodge City High School was recognized for its outstanding work as part of CTE Month. DCHS was one of two school selected in the state of Kansas.

Today, the Kansas Department of Education visited the CTE programs DCHS has to offer. The visit included a tour, lead by Kris Moore, Teacher of the Year nominee. Commissioner Randy Watson, Kansas State Board of Education members, legislator, and others received a chance to see firsthand what CTE looks like in western Kansas. This group visited classroom students and asked their insight on the value this program plays. In addition, the group was shown special projects/work within specific pathways.

The tour began in the Media Center. Later, Trista Fergerson’s Broadcasting classroom was visited, where students were filming and editing video. Next was Christoper Spindler’s Animation classroom, where students shared insights on the motion suits. Then it was Bruce Austin’s floral culture class, where students were making floral designs. In Adam McElwain’s CAD classroom, the students shared the technology they use daily. Steven Rankin’s graphic design classroom, showcased printing and design production. Lastly, Daniel Aistrup’s classroom showed the world of welding at DCHS.

In an email statement, Jacque Feist praised the great work of this department.

“I am once again humbled to get to work with such a great group of people– who put students first every day in every way,” said Jacque Feist, principal.

KSDE members even got to tour the new wing/academic house that’s currently under construction.
