Alumni Game

Welcome, back to day 3. Today I will be talking about an alumni tradition we carry every year. The alumni started the first year Dodge City got an official soccer team. Every year before the first game the graduates come back to play a scrimmage with the new soccer team. They play at the stadium and play 30 min halves and have a (half time) just like a regular game. The whole purpose of the scrimmage is to see if the new team has what the old players had and that is skill. Every game is just a friendly game, it’s really not a competition, it’s just a friendly match.

The kids enjoy playing against their old team and especially if they beat their upperclassmen. Some players might not have the chance to come home and play. It depends if they have time with school and other activities. If there aren’t enough players the graduates recruit players that might be parents that played before. Although this is an every year thing, if the team doesn’t have time in the season to play, due to games being scheduled early they won’t have the scrimmage.

The players don’t actually wear their game day jerseys they just wear the same color of shirt and their cleats and shin guards and play. Every alumni game is the best and most friendly game in the league. It’s the best because it’s a game with your teammates and old friends. Parents during the past year have loved it because it’s a chance to see son against father or brother against brother. The players love it due to the fact they get a chance to prove to coaches they need to be on varsity or on jv.

Girls soccer also has an alumni game and I believe it’s the best and fun game in the league. Players that moved hours away come just for the chance to beat their new soccer team. This game is the most competitive game also.

Come back tomorrow to learn about or new soccer team!
