Blog 1: 90's Hip Hop Artists

Yajayra Alarcon, Digital Media Reporter

Hi, my name is Yajayra Alarcon! Welcome to day 1 of my blog. I will be talking about Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr. better known by his stage name, Snoop Dogg, he is an American rapper / hip hop artist from the 90’s. His career started in 1992 when he was featured in Dr. Dre, another rapper’s solo debut. Snoop Dogg was born in Long Beach, California on October 20, 1971. Snoops debut album Doggystyle was released in 1993 by Death Row Records and  produced by Dr. Dre. The album was no. 1 on the Billboard 200 and Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Almost a million copies were sold in the first week of the album’s release, the album became certified quadruple platinum in 1994. His second album Tha Doggfather was released in 1996 and also became no. 1 on both charts. The album was certified double platinum in 1997.

Snoop Dogg then left Death Row Records and signed with No Limit Records. He then released three more albums with them, Da Game Is To Be Sold, Not To Be Told  in 1998, No Limit Top Dogg in 1999, and Tha Last Meal in 2000. After those three albums Snoop signed with Priority/Capitol/EMI Records in 2002. He then released Paid tha Cost to Be da Boss. He then signed with Geffen Records in 2004 and release three more albums, R&G (Rhythm & Gangsta): The Masterpiece, Ta Blue Carpet Treatment, and Ego Trippin’ . Malice ‘n Wonderland in 2009, and Doggumentary in 2011.

Snoop Dogg took a trip to Jamaica in 2012 and announced a  new alias, Snoop Lion. He released the album Reincarnated and a documentary about his Jamaican experience in 2013. Bush was his 13th studio album, which was released in May, 2015 and marked the return of the alias Snoop Dogg. He then released his 14th studio album Coolaid in July, 2016. He now has 17 Grammy nominations with no wins.

He was and still is a well known Hip Hop artist. In my opinion he is one of the greatest, although I share the same opinion as many other in the aspect that his music back in the 90’s is better than what he has recently released. He now has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, which is very well deserved.

That is all for day 1 of my blog, thank you for reading. Be back on day 2 to read about another 90’s hip hop artist!
