The Dodge City Red Demons took on the Guymon Tigers in a high energy game on Dec. 19.

The first half started off with the Demons taking the lead, while the Tigers trailed close behind. Although they held the lead during the majority of the game, the Demons struggled to make their shots and faltered in their stance.

“I was kind of disappointed in the way we played during the first half,” said Tony Starnes, head coach. This is Starnes’s first year coaching the Demons.

The team went into the second half with an eight-point lead over the Tigers, the score was 42-34. With renewed strength, the team went on to not only maintain their lead, but also expanded it. By the end of the third quarter the Demons were up 65-49, a 16-point lead.

By the fourth quarter, the Demons took off. They steadily increased their lead and by the end of the game the team had created a 30-point lead, winning the game 91-59.

“Going into break with a win is a great momentum builder, but with a week of rest coming up we’ll have to bounce back and get back into shape to get ready for the rest of the season and the Tournament of Champions. Regardless, we’re getting better at what we do and we just have to continue to progress and stay consistent in what we do,” said Starnes.

With this win the Demons move their record up to 2-3. Next up the Red Demons will take on Cimarron on Jan. 5 at the United Wireless Arena.
