The Red Demons played in game three of the 75th annual Tournament of Champions against the Maize Eagles. Despite their best efforts, Dodge lost in round one 98-71.

From the beginning, the Demons started flat not making points until they were down by more than 10 points. It wasn’t until Adrian Mendoza, 11, found the net within four minutes of the first quarter.

From there, the Demons fell short 18-0, but then started to fight back. Mendoza led the team with nine points followed by Hunter Heath, 12,  with five, and John Johnson, 10, with two, ending the first quarter 28-16.

Mendoza continued to lead for Dodge with a total of 15 points. The Red Demons out scored the Maize Eagles by two points during the second quarter. Going into the locker room, to end the first half, Maize still remained on top 50-40.

Helping put points on the board were Heath with a total of 12 and senior Kaden Riekenberg with 10. At the end of third quarter, Maize still kept the lead 77-61.

Finishing up the final quarter Heath lead the team with 17 points, followed by Mendoza with 15, and Riekenberg with 12. The final score was 98-71.

Dodge City will play at 6 p.m. on Friday.
