The Dodge City High School Band received their ninth superior rating in a row at the Central States Marching Festival, at Kansas State University. The band traveled to Manhattan on Oct. 7. The band worked and practiced since June to prepare for the festival.

Jason Richins, director, said he was pleased with the audience reaction to the show.

“Some of the highlights were the audience feedback to the show, the moments that we planned on getting a response we got it, that was positive. The kids did well, they played as good as they could have even with the last ten days of rained out rehearsals. The kids are happy about the rating, so I’m happy,” said Richins.

Senior Yadira Ortiz, assistant section leader of Color Guard, said she had some memorable moments during the show.

“Getting to perform at Central States for the fourth time is like being home away from home. The audience feedback always get us the most, that’s what we care about the most. Putting on a good show for them to stay in their seats and to keep asking for more after we’re done,” said Ortiz.

Later in the year, the band will perform in the WAC festival in Hays and also at KBA at Washburn.
